The food was decent, though I thought it was overpriced. A starter, main and dessert comes to about £50 per person, and the cheapest pint is £7. I’m staying here for four nights, but when I went down for a beer at 10pm, the doors were locked even though the bar is meant to close at 11. The barman said it was quiet, so they’d shut for the night. I didn’t make a fuss, but residents are paying to stay there, and advertised opening times should be followed. The room cleanliness was questionable. There was mould in the shower and elsewhere, dirty bathroom tiles and grout, and a random air vent in the shower cubicle. I stood on broken glass in the bathroom and had to pull a piece out of my foot the next morning. It was left in plain sight and housekeeping hadn’t removed it in two days. Dust under the tables suggests hard-to-reach spots aren’t vacuumed. The location wasn’t great either, with no shops or amenities unless you drive. I feel a little mean leaving this, but I’m not happy right now. Images of the room to follow.

We dropped into the Cricketers Arms on a Sunday afternoon without booking, and they found us space at a bar table despite all the Christmas parties. We’d enjoyed the food and service there several times before, so it was nice to get a spot. We had the buffalo chicken burger and the beef and pork burger. Both were handmade, cooked just right, and came with excellent fries. The service was spot on throughout. Really enjoyed the whole visit and we’ll be back soon.

The location was lovely and peaceful, and the food was good. The customer service was fantastic too, everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The bed was amazingly comfortable. Some parts of the room felt a little tired, and the general accommodation area could do with a spruce up, but it was still a very comfortable stay.

We came in for lunch on our anniversary and really enjoyed the food. It was reasonably priced, and the staff were friendly. A lovely traditional pub in a small Essex village. We’ll definitely come back.

The Sunday roast is simply amazing, and the food and staff are impeccable. Everyone on the front of house team is polite and accommodating. Fantastic local pub. I’ve never stayed in the rooms, so can’t comment on them, but it’s an amazing pub.
