The Greyhound Inn

We booked a family Christmas meal here and were told we had until the end of November to pay the deposit and choose our food. When we called in mid-November to confirm our choices and pay, they'd given our table to someone else. Be careful they don't cancel your booking and hand it over.

We broke up a long drive with a stop here and had really good food. The staff were lovely, too. Our little boy had on a superhero T-shirt, and not long after we got our drinks, they brought him a printed colouring sheet of that same superhero. Such a nice bit of attention. They were just as thoughtful when taking his order. He wanted one scoop of ice cream, so they checked if he was sure he didn't want two. After some negotiating, they landed on one and a half, with sprinkles and sauce.

The menu was well organised, the portions were generous, and there was a comfortable, welcoming feel to the place. A great experience.

There's an interesting menu, and dogs are welcome in the garden. The food was nice, though it didn't quite match what we've had at other pubs. My fish was a little overcooked, and the crab cakes seemed to have no base, something you only find out when you cut into them. Dessert was good and enormous. Small things, but enough to lose a star.
