Ratagan Youth Hostel

The views from out front are incredible, and Tom was a really lovely host. The dorm had crisp, clean covers, comfy mattresses and two great pillows on each bunk. There’s a big kitchen, pleasant dining and living areas, and a good choice of guidebooks and novels. Dinner and breakfast are available if you need them. The showers and toilets were spotless. The kitchen hot water was only lukewarm during our visit, though there’s boiling water on tap too.

The staff made us feel at home. Both were incredibly welcoming, knew the area well and gave us some great ideas for things to do on Skye. The location is ideal as a base for exploring, with stunning views all around and a lovely outdoor spot overlooking the water. We were lucky the weather let us sit out there. We stayed one night with the kids this week. It’s a proper old-school hiking hostel, and probably the most scenic YHA you could stay at. The rooms are basic, but the beds were really comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and the dining room had space for everyone. There’s also a nice lounge, though it was pretty quiet while some tired hikers were relaxing, so we didn’t want the kids to disturb them.

The manager was helpful, excellent and knew the local area and mountains well. The hostel itself is clean and comfortable, with rooms that are clearly well cared for. There’s a well-equipped kitchen, a nice dining area and a cosy room to relax in. It sits right by the loch, with direct access and stunning views. Best hostel in the UK.

Right by the loch, the setting is fantastic, with lovely views and the option of a swim. Pack midge spray! The reception team has a well-stocked bar, and the drying room was brilliant for our soaking wet motorbike gear. We booked a room with 10 beds, arranged as 5 bunk beds, and the beds were comfy.
