Belle Vue House

The woman running the place was really nice, and there’s plenty of parking. The price was reasonable, but I wasn’t happy with the breakfast: on a Sunday we expected a cooked meal and got a continental one instead. The building feels tired and needs modernising. Some fixtures were coming away from the wall, there was nowhere to put towels in the bathroom, and one of the ceiling windows wouldn’t open. The beds were as hard as boards. It wasn’t a terrible stay, but I’d spend a bit more on a better hotel or B&B, or use a Travelodge and get breakfast at a cafe or supermarket.

A really welcoming place, and the host was helpful, lovely, and good company. The rooms were very clean and had all the amenities. Breakfast was spot on, with both a cooked option and a continental one. I’d definitely stay again.

I expected less and was pleasantly surprised. It’s a nice traditional guest house, and I felt really welcome. I just wish I hadn’t needed to leave before breakfast was served.

Good value, with clean, comfortable rooms and friendly service. Breakfast was great, and it’s conveniently close to Reading centre.
