We'd hoped to celebrate my daughter's 25th birthday and graduation with a nice meal here, but it was a terrible disappointment. The decor and atmosphere were 10/10, while the food was just average, maybe 7/10, nothing special. Nobody checked whether we wanted more drinks either. My husband ordered a steak on the 50% off night and checked with our waitress that it qualified. She said it did, but when the bill finally arrived, more than 30 minutes later, another staff member explained that the discount didn't apply. We were told the till wouldn't allow it because the steak wasn't eligible, and they treated it as our mistake, even though we'd confirmed it with the waitress. I know a manager can override that. I felt we were treated differently because we're American. A man at another table, who arrived after us, complained about his food and had a manager apologize and remove it from his bill. He had a British accent, so it seemed he was treated differently. Awful.

Sam made our dinner a highlight. She explained how the menu worked, helped us choose, knew the wine list well and was both professional and friendly. She really added to the evening and is an asset to Malmaison. Our room was clean, spacious and thoughtfully designed, with a comfortable bed and pillows and a bathroom that felt luxurious. At breakfast, the kitchen got my eggs well done just as I asked, and my husband enjoyed the kippers and continental choices. We had a lovely night away, with a great location, a nice bar and superb service from Sam. Thanks!

Nick was wonderful, exactly the sort of person you hope to meet when you're welcomed in. Sophie at the bar was excellent too, and the staff were great. The room was quiet despite being at the front, thanks to really good glazing, and it was easy to find. The shower and toiletries were nice, and there was lots of hanging space, though, like in many hotels, not enough drawers for clothes. The air conditioning was okay. Bathroom lighting wasn't great for makeup, and there was no magnifying mirror. A super stay, highly recommend. Thanks!

The bar's friendly gentleman left a lasting impression. The cocktails were impeccable, and the staff knew their drinks and food and were attentive. They made my business trip run smoothly, which I really appreciated. I stayed at the Malmaison Reading a few weeks ago and hope to visit again.

Breakfast was lovely, and the decor had the dark, seedy feel you'd expect from a malmaison 😉. The staff I met varied, but none were rude, just not especially friendly. The air conditioning was the main issue. It was noisy even when switched off, and I reported it as I was leaving.
