Premier Inn Reading Central

The location was good, but this Premier Inn fell short of the consistent quality I usually expect. The rooms felt dated, the hairdryer didn’t work properly, the water pressure was poor, and there was damp around the windows. At check-in I was told breakfast was booked for both days. Later, staff said I hadn’t booked it for the second day, and they weren’t especially helpful. We also had a couple of drinks in reception. Happy hour ended at 7pm, and we waited from 18.55pm until 7.01pm for the barman, who was chatting with a group of people. By the time he came, we were told happy hour was over.

The dinner was top notch, affordable, and the service was lovely. The weather was bad, so I ate at the hotel restaurant instead of going out, and I’m glad I did. Sean served me and was an absolute delight. He found me a great table, was quick with everything and made sure I was well looked after. Thanks, Sean! I can definitely recommend the hotel. The prices were very reasonable too. 10/10, I’d stay again.

The rooms were comfortable, despite the noise. The location is near the Oracle, but less convenient than some other hotels for buses to the University. I asked for a quiet room, and the person checking me in said, “Oh... I think all rooms are quiet.” I explained that I didn’t want one on the road side, but that’s where I was put. The room was initially the wrong one, so I came downstairs again to ask for another. I was immediately told they were fully booked. I suspect they just didn’t want to move me to a different tier, though I can’t be sure. The hotel is by a very busy road, and I could hear it from my room on the third floor. Nothing could be done when I asked to move, and I didn’t sleep well. I was grateful to the morning staff for letting me cancel my second night free of charge. The check-in service, though, was pretty useless and not what I expected from the other reviews.

The staff make this place feel like home, especially when you’re here for three nights. The manageress and her team are friendly and courteous, and go the extra mile to make your stay memorable. The public areas and rooms are spotless. They’ve added more choices for evening meals, and breakfast is always fresh with plenty to pick from, from cereal to a traditional fried breakfast. This must be the best Premier Inn anywhere in the UK.
