We booked for two nights but could only manage one, and they refused to refund the second night. I wish I’d read the reviews first. On arrival, police were checking CCTV after a fight in the lobby the night before, which didn’t make a good first impression. Parking was £10 a night, so we parked a few streets away and walked. Their card machine wasn’t working, so we had to pay cash, which seemed odd. The room was filthy, the bed was like concrete, the bathroom door wouldn’t close, and there were teabags but no milk. The room used a code pad instead of a lock, meaning anyone who’d previously stayed there could get in, while the front door was left open all night with no staff around. The staff had no name badges or dress code, and seemed unhelpful and dismissive. They claimed to be in charge but said the problems weren’t their responsibility. They wouldn’t tell us who the owner was or give their own names. They must make a fortune letting the same rooms more than once, because I can’t imagine anyone staying beyond one night. Either the two men running it are completely incompetent or there’s more going on than meets the eye. It needs investigating and closing.

No cleaning was done in my room during the stay, so I didn’t get fresh towels either. As a disabled woman, I was put on the top floor, and there’s no lift. The place wasn’t very clean and badly needed redecorating. If you want to park outside, you have to pay £10 for the privilege of using the footpath. My partner questioned the staff about the right to use the footpath and charge for it. Later, they told me that the owner had decided not to charge me for parking because of my disabilities. The staff seemed polite and tried to help, but this was a very disappointing stay and I wouldn’t recommend it.

When we tried to shower, the water was cold and the shower room was mouldy and dirty. We’ll never stay here again. Three weeks before our visit, I got a call saying the en-suite room I’d booked would be under maintenance, and asking if my partner and I would move to a room with shared shower facilities. We agreed since we were only staying one night. But when we arrived and opened the room using the code they’d given us, it looked like someone was still staying there. The bed was unmade, wrappers and mess were all over the floor, and the TV was on. I called reception. About ten minutes later, two people came down the corridor and said nobody had told them the previous guest had checked out early. They went in, cleared up, changed the bed and put on fresh sheets while my partner and I had to eat downstairs at the front desk with people coming and going. I’ve never felt so embarrassed. The staff apologised a lot, but nobody offered a refund for what we’d been put through.

The location is good, and a room with a sea view is a bonus. It’s a bit rough around the edges while renovation work is underway, but it’s got potential and should be great once it’s finished. Works well if all you need is a bed for the night.

The sea view was lovely, and the bed was comfortable. There was a choice of toilets and a nice hot shower, too. The place is being renovated at the moment but was still nice, and it’s close to all the local amenities. Staff were really friendly and helpful, they couldn’t do enough for us. We had a lovely two-night stay and will definitely return. See you soon Jane and David
