It’s such a relief to find somewhere that doesn’t make me feel awkward about my nut and peanut allergy. The staff were friendly, and the barmaid checked with the chef before reassuring me that my meal would be safe. She also flagged that the garlic bread might contain nuts, which was for my mum, so we appreciated the warning. The food was hot and really tasty, and we liked it enough to come back another night. I was visiting while staying in Helmsley, and I’d return if I’m in the area again.

Claire behind the bar made our mum’s 90th birthday visit memorable with how attentive and kind she was. We popped in for an evening drink and had a lovely chat. It’s got that old-school pub feel, with a decent pint, warmth and charm. We’ll stop by again next time we’re in Helmsley. Just what a pub should be.

There was a mix-up with the food because the young staff are new, but everyone has to learn somewhere. The lad did his best, had lovely manners, and gets full credit from me. It added to the warmth of the place, if anything. I’ll be back next Sunday :)

The portions and quality were a real surprise, especially for such a reasonable price. Eating out can feel expensive these days, but this was excellent value and the staff made sure we had a really enjoyable time. We were lucky to get a table at the start of a busy bank holiday, and they rearranged things to fit my wife, granddaughter and me in. There were gluten-free choices for my wife too. We’ll come back next time we’re nearby.

The pub is lovely and the staff were friendly, but Sunday dinner today was a letdown. The meat was catering-style slices rather than from a joint, the roasties seemed a lot like frozen ones, and there was very little veg. We wished we’d picked from the regular menu.
