Sally at reception was incredibly kind and made me feel welcome as soon as I arrived. My room was cosy, beautifully decorated and immaculately clean, and the kitchen team looked after me and made things extra special. A wonderful place to unwind, eat well and get some rest. Thank you to everyone who welcomed me so warmly 🙏🏻

We spent the weekend at this welcoming hotel in a wonderful setting. Our room had a great view over the river, and the breakfasts were fantastic. Sally, Pat and Denise gave excellent customer service and couldn’t do enough for us.

The lounge was a highlight for me, especially with the real fire making it feel so cosy. The setting is lovely too, right beside the river, with a walking path running straight past the hotel and plenty of chances to get out for a relaxing stroll. The staff were brilliant, warm and chatty, and seemed to make a real effort to look after everyone. Our room was pleasant, though parts of it felt dated. I found the mattress very uncomfortable and had trouble sleeping. We also had to clear more than ten ladybirds out when we first arrived, despite the windows being shut, so we couldn't tell how they'd got in. I enjoyed the stay and would come back for the location, atmosphere and people, especially if the mattresses were improved.

The food was a real highlight. Dinner was delicious, and breakfast had a huge choice. The staff were just as lovely at breakfast, and even had dog treats. The hotel is clean and dog friendly, though the decor feels a bit old fashioned. That's my only negative. The valley is steeped in history, and the autumn scenery was beautiful. I imagine spring would be just as lovely. It was pleasantly quiet for us, though summer might bring a fun, lively feel. Do keep in mind that the roads are narrow. Definitely recommend a visit.

We ended up going to a pub further along, where the food was excellent and the service came with a smile. We sat outside in the warm sunshine and watched the world go by. I suggested we leave this place because I felt so unwelcome. Half our group had walked down from the Rock top, while a few people with young children drove down to meet them. The first arrivals waited quite a while before anyone came to the bar, and they felt unwelcome. The prices seemed crazy, and we didn't buy anything. Another couple told us they'd had a similar experience and left without being served. It felt as if our presence was an inconvenience. The bar was empty, which surprised us on a sunny, warm Saturday lunchtime in such a location. Maybe it's better as a hotel, and should make clear that that's its purpose.
