The pub was decent, and we enjoyed a good meal for £100 for two, including the service charge we added. That seemed very fair. Staff were helpful and nice, though parking can be frustrating if you don’t know that the spaces marked with cones are for guests. Move a cone, park, and make sure they have your registration. Our twin room was the only one available. It had a nice ensuite and was comfortable enough. There’s no temperature control for the heating, so it could get uncomfortable if you can’t get it dialled in. The rooms have been remodelled, and breakfast was nice.

The wood burner made our table feel really cosy for Sunday roast with my wife and son. I had the beef, my wife had the veggie option, and my son got garlic bread. The food was very nice, portions were healthy, and there were good vegetarian choices for my wife. Staff were attentive and happy to help with anything. We’ll definitely be back in the new year.

We ate here two nights in a row because the food was so good, with a great selection. The braised venison was to die for. Hats off to the chef, some of the best pub dining I’ve had in months. Breakfast was top notch as well, with plenty to choose from, and the pub had a great range of beer. It was my first Butty Bach, and I’m now in love with it. The staff made the stay, too. Everyone we met was engaged, happy to help, and up for a bit of banter and a laugh. I don’t know who the manager was, but the leadership was clearly good. We spent three nights at the Saracens head while visiting Oldfield Forge for a knife making experience. On arrival, after our two hour drive, the friendly staff helped us feel at home and relaxed, and gave us a map of local walks. Our newly appointed superior room was at the front of the pub, looking over the river. It had a contemporary style, lovely pine floors and furniture, and a modern bathroom with a bath and shower. Handy for a quick shower in the morning and a soak after walking the hills in the rain. Great stay, service, food and accommodation, and lovely people.

The location is incredible, and I’d definitely come back, hopefully in summer to sit by the river for dinner. Booking was easy, the room was lovely, and the food was tasty, good value and plentiful. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout. One snag was the heating control, which seemed to have a mind of its own.

We only managed one night instead of the three we’d planned, due to circumstances, but it was a fabulous place. Dinner was delicious, and breakfast was cooked exactly as I asked. Every staff member we came across was pleasant, friendly and extremely helpful. The owners should be proud of them. We’d happily recommend it and hope we can return.
