We stayed at Bridge View House, but there wasn’t a way to leave a review there, so I’m posting it here. The beds were so uncomfortable that my mum chose the floor, which she found more comfortable. My boyfriend and I had just one lamp in our room, and it didn’t work. There’s no parking either, which topped off an awful stay. The house is very outdated and the facilities are poor. The bathroom ceiling is low, the bath taps are nearly coming off their bolts, and the toilet often wouldn’t flush properly. When it did flush, it made a horrible loud noise. I worried the people below could hear it. There’s only one TV in the whole house, in the living room. It was ancient, the remote didn’t work, and the DVD player looked like it was from the dawn of time. The kitchen was acceptable apart from the difficult cooker. I wouldn’t recommend staying unless you’re prepared for days without sleep and aching backs.

A spacious place with plenty of character, and it’s both comfortable and modern. The location is very convenient. The basic supplies are there, though having a washer or dryer would have been useful.

For what we paid, this place really wasn’t worth it. The beds were rock hard, below youth hostel standards, and the linen didn’t feel homely. The toilet wouldn’t flush properly, the bath wasn’t fitted right, and the glasses were cracked. The water tasted unclean. Everything felt old and poorly cared for. There was just one ancient TV, with a DVD player that only had pub quizzes, and the remote didn’t work. The lamps had no working bulbs either. At that price I expected better facilities, at least a TV in each bedroom and a toilet that flushed. They even had tapes for playing music, which made it feel like sitting in the 80s. Honestly, avoid it.

The owners know the local area well and had plenty of tips to share. It’s a fantastic place, right in the centre of gorgeous Rothbury.

A beautiful, very comfortable house, furnished to a high standard. It’s also conveniently placed for the village.
