Queens Head

The food was delicious, with generous servings and huge desserts, and everyone was happy with their accommodation. The breakfasts got particular praise from the group. I brought 13 photographers from around the UK here for a three-day photography business workshop, and the location worked perfectly, with plenty of parking and full use of the small function room throughout. Staff kept us supplied with tea and coffee during the day, and each evening we chose from the extensive menu. The team gave us a warm welcome every day, with first-class service and great attention to detail. Thanks so much to Jordann and her team for helping make the event such a success.

The top-floor room seemed to have been refurbished and was lovely and quiet, with great views. We really enjoyed the superb full English breakfast on both mornings, which set us up for walks in the snowy Simonside Hills. The pub bar downstairs had a great atmosphere, and the place is right in the centre of Rothbury, with parking at the rear. We also tried the other bars and both Italian restaurants, and they were delicious. Everyone here was friendly and helpful. We loved our two-day stay. Thank you for making it such a lovely one.

Everything was nicely presented, though the portions were on the small side. I had the chicken wrap with red slaw and fries, while the others had a beetroot veggie burger with smoked cheese and a Cumberland sausage with gravy. The food was hot, freshly made and really delicious when it finally arrived, about 40 minutes after we ordered, despite it not being very busy. I only tried the £13 lunch special, and the lunch menu seemed decent. We also had a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The place was lovely and well decorated. It was worth the wait, and I'd go back if I were in the area again.

The server was pleasant and helpful, but the food was a real letdown when I stopped in with my elderly Mum for a quick bite in Rothbury. She asked for a pensioner's portion of scampi because she doesn't eat much. The frozen chips were dry as cardboard and the peas were cold. I ordered the Queens Head Burger, which was meant to come in a Soda Bread bun. JEEEEEEEZE, the bread was ROCK hard, completely inedible, and the chicken was very hard too. When I questioned the inedible bread and the scampi price, which seemed wrong because her small serving cost the same as the larger meal, they took just £2 off the bill. We also heard other guests asking for menu items that weren't available, something mentioned in other reviews too. It seems nothing has changed. My honest advice is to go elsewhere. There's a COOP across the road, sorry but true.
