We’d booked 15 months ahead and paid in full six months before the trip. Then, two months before we were due to go, Allison cancelled, first citing “family circumstances” and later explaining there was a wedding in her family. That hadn’t been mentioned in her original email. The alternatives she offered wouldn’t fit everyone who’d paid £700 per family to stay. When we said they wouldn’t work, she said she’d have to cancel and tried to get the families to give false reasons on the cancellation forms so she wouldn’t lose our £1800 deposit. I’m sure the place looks lovely, but the ownership experience was a shame.

We had dinner there on our second night and both the food and service were excellent. The restaurant was closed the first evening because the staff were having a night off, which is fair enough. Breakfast was a nice setup too, with plenty of continental options and hot food available to buy at a reasonable price. We stuck with toast, cereal and pastries, which was more than enough, and the coffee was very good. The room was clean and lovely, and the owner gave us a relaxed, welcoming reception that made us feel at home. A lovely hotel.

Only stayed the one night, but I’d happily come back. The room was gorgeous, nicely decorated and exceptionally clean, and the full Scottish breakfast was just right. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Thank you! 😃

Such a beautiful home, I loved staying here so much that I’m coming back next weekend. Thanks for being so lovely.

The staff were very nice and the room was clean, but the price was far too high for what you get. It felt grim and badly in need of a full refurbishment, and the room itself was very dated. The ensuite shower had hardly any pressure, more like a hair-washing attachment than a proper shower. It wasn’t a cheap hotel, and it was a huge letdown. Two stars would be generous. Holidaymakers, book somewhere else!
