Hampshire Hotel

We had booked seven days but left after just one night, desperate to get out. Noise from other rooms included shouting and swearing, and there were worrying maintenance problems: exposed wires at the light fitting, mains wiring showing where it had come away from the landing wall, and a broken ironing board. The toilet was crammed against the sink, so using it meant trying to limbo. We found another suitable hotel, but this turned into an awful, very expensive holiday. The owner still hasn't apologized. The website's claims about being the best house in Jersey and having two high-class restaurants date back more than ten years, and the accommodation certificates were also over ten years old and irrelevant to the current owner. There have been several owners since then, so I have serious doubts about the place's credibility. Truly terrible accommodation. Don't be fooled by the website. Avoid it.

The room was clean and did what I needed, so this was a good budget guest house. There isn't a reception, and I only saw the caretaker once. Check-in was a bit odd: the online instructions said 12:00-14:00, but they were fine with me arriving later. When I got there the front door was shut, and the caretaker's number didn't work. Luckily, there was a doorbell.

I've stayed at this guest house four times now and have always been looked after really well. Landlady Jackie is warm and welcoming. Once she's done the meet and greet, she lets you unwind and relax, while still being available if you need anything. Just ask and she'll help.

The rooms were very clean, though you can hear a bit of noise from other guests.
