I lived at The Heart for nearly a year on the 19th floor. The view from my window was wide and lovely, with ITV, BBC, Media City Footbridge, and Millennium Bridge in sight. The wind was another matter. Most days it made an extremely loud, ghostlike howling sound that made it hard to fall asleep. The lifts were a serious concern. They broke down often, and I was trapped once with other residents, which was frightening enough. I later met an older woman with limited mobility who was afraid to ride alone, so she would wait on the lobby sofa until another resident could go up with her. Once both lifts were out of service, and we had to climb all 19 floors. I wonder how residents who are older or less active coped. I also had trouble getting a bathroom hot water tap fixed. Mr. D from the management office repeatedly didn’t respond. A repair visit was booked, but nobody came or told us it was cancelled. We kept asking politely and patiently, but the issue was never dealt with, even by the time we moved out. Residents I knew in other units had similar experiences. The hot water itself was far too hot, as though no cold water was mixing in. I had to keep jumping in and out of the shower to avoid being scalded, and this went on for a while. There are obvious maintenance problems, and leaving them unaddressed could make things worse. Also, rent, water, and electricity aren’t the only costs. Hot water is billed separately, about £40 extra per month on average.

The communal areas are kept in such good shape, thanks especially to Esmeralda. Her dedication makes a real difference to life in the building, and she’s a real asset. I’ve loved living here: it’s consistently clean, peaceful, and has a welcoming feel.
I’ve enjoyed living at The Heart in MediaCityUK. Esme works hard and pays attention to the cleaning, which really helps the building feel well looked after. It’s got a nice atmosphere too. The hot water is sometimes unreliable, which is a nuisance in colder weather, and the escalators do occasionally stop working. That can be awkward when you’re carrying things or hurrying. Still, there’s a lot to like here, and I hope management gets those recurring technical problems sorted.
Every day Esmeralda keeps everything tidy and clean, and she always does it with a lovely smile and a positive attitude. Thank you, Esmeralda!
Esme brings a warm, helpful energy to the building. She’s always approachable, greets people with a smile, and goes out of her way to help. You can see how much pride she takes in looking after the place. She works really hard on the cleaning and keeping everything in the block running smoothly. Urban Bubble is lucky to have her, and so are we. Thanks for all you do, Esme, you’re amazing! Louise x The Heart Blue
