I loved my room at Victoria Lodge, where I stayed next door. I think it may be part of the same business, though it doesn't have its own page. It's a beautiful place, and the staff were really nice and helpful. I'd definitely stay again.

We paid £85 for a twin room, which feels top-end for a small B&B, though it was a Saturday in half-term. The car park felt safe, and the neighbourhood was quiet. It's an easy walk of about 15 minutes to the city centre. The place is very clean and well kept, basically a small family hotel without a bar or evening restaurant. Our room was well equipped with a flat-screen TV and tea and coffee making facilities. There were thoughtful little touches too, like a black towel for anyone wanting to take off their makeup.

The hosts are lovely and run a great guest house. We had a lovely room with good WiFi, and it's a great base for exploring the area. I was just a little disappointed that breakfast was continental rather than a fry-up.

Just a short five-minute walk gets you to the start of town. We had a really lovely, homely stay, with a spotless, comfortable room and breakfast that was exactly what we needed. The couple running the place were so welcoming.

I didn't end up staying here. I called to ask about a booking, but the woman on the phone seemed in such a rush to end the conversation that it left a poor first impression. She said they could only accommodate guests on Fridays and Saturdays, though I couldn't see that noted outside the manor or online. I wouldn't feel comfortable staying somewhere where customer care seems to come second. Be careful.
