The restaurant food was good, but they stop serving after 5 on Sundays. I got there at 8:30 pm after a 300 mile drive and had to find somewhere else to eat. For what I paid, the stay was good if you just need an inexpensive place to sleep. I get the impression contractors like me use it mostly during the week, and it wouldn't suit people after a weekend away. The rooms are separate from the pub and felt cold, with a musty smell. The radiator gave no heat, so I went to the car for a hoody. The bed was comfortable and the room clean. Hot water took a while but was fine after that. Neither bedside lamp worked.

We came on two Saturday evenings in a row, and the difference between them was striking. The first time, the staff and food were exceptional. On the second visit my wife ordered the same meal, but its presentation and what arrived were completely different from the menu description. The staff seemed less enthusiastic too, apart from one young man who was very helpful and apologised for the difference.

I had the carvery today, which is available Wednesdays and Sundays, and it was delicious, good quality food. Best carvery I've had. The place is in a nice spot with plenty of parking, and the premises were clean and welcoming. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I'd certainly recommend a visit, you won't be disappointed.

Staff were polite and accommodating, and there are several places to eat, either in the bar or restaurant depending on what customers like. The building looks nice, with retro-style motel rooms out back, and there's on-site parking, though the spaces are narrow. The food was tasty and filling, if a bit pricey. It was pretty good for the cost, but didn't change my life.

The evening meals I've had at the Cardinals Hatt were always brilliant, so breakfast didn't live up to my expectations. The buffet food was dry in places. There was only one egg option, and it had gone hard and rubbery under the heat lamps. The beans hadn't been stirred for a while, leaving a dry skin on top. Breakfast was £4.95 all you can eat, with unlimited tea and coffee another £1.20. Drinks were self-service, with tea bags, coffee sachets and heated jugs of regular coffee. There was no self-service juice, though staff would have brought me a glass for an extra charge. The staff are always friendly and happy to help, welcoming you and explaining what the place offers. All in all, £4.95 was okay for what you got.
