Braeswick B&B

The breakfast was fresh and delicious, and the staff were so friendly and helpful throughout. I had everything I needed in a comfortable, well-equipped room. A really lovely stay, and I’d recommend this B&B to anyone wanting somewhere cozy.

We had a great two-night stay as a family of four, using two rooms. The beds were comfortable, we all slept well, and there was plenty of room for clothes and luggage. The showers were great too. My one small complaint is that the double beds are three-quarter length. I’m only 5'8" and my feet would stick out if I lay straight, though I don’t usually sleep that way, so it wasn’t a problem for me. It might be for someone taller, but I’d still book again without hesitation. The dining area looks out over the Sanday coast and North Atlantic, and it’s easy to spend a long time enjoying the view. Breakfast was very good. We also ordered the homemade evening meals, which were tasty and good value, especially as there isn’t much else available nearby. Jon was a lovely host and nothing seemed like too much trouble. Since no one else was due in our room on departure day, he let us keep using it until our 6pm ferry to Kirkwall. That was a real bonus. The B&B is also just a five-minute drive from the ferry.

We enjoyed our stay and would come back to Sanday, hopefully when the weather is better. Jon was helpful, and the location is handy for the ferry as well as offering what must be amazing views. We were there in heavy fog, so could only guess at the scenery. The B&B has a simple style that we like, and the glass-walled living and dining room looks out to sea. Our room had enough space to open our suitcases, and both the beds and shower were very good. We booked dinner in advance: homemade lasagna, Meet Pie, chocolate cake and rhubarb crumble, all tasty. We knew there was no wine, so brought our own. Breakfast didn’t match the dinner. We’d have liked more choice, especially uncooked options such as homemade jams, fresh fruit and yogurt.

There’s a lovely sea view from the breakfast room, and one of the rooms has a view too. The rooms are nice, ensuite and spacious enough to be comfortable. Breakfast is included, and Jon serves homemade dinners at reasonable prices. He can also help arrange a lift to or from the ferry if you need one. Jon and Maria are lovely hosts, and I hope to return soon.
