It’s a busy pub with a great atmosphere and a varied menu, from small plates to larger meals. I had the superb lamb, and loved the coffee and small portions of selected puddings too.

We tried six different meals, and every one was superb for both taste and presentation. A first-class spot for lunch, with attentive staff and quality food. The car park opens at noon, and remember to register your number plate.
We’ve stopped here twice on trips to Oxfordshire, once for a light lunch and once for Sunday lunch, and both meals were great. The Sunday roast was fantastic and good value, a highlight on our journey home. It’s a fantastic old hostelry, updated with care while keeping its heritage feel. Great menu and polite, attentive staff. Highly recommended!
We came for lunch on a weekday. It’s a beautiful building inside and out, about a five-minute walk from the centre of Sandbach. The service was excellent, although our mains took 25 minutes to arrive. The scallops were excellent, and the fillet steak sandwich worked well as a small bite, though there was perhaps too much ciabatta compared with the steak. The turkey Christmas dinner was disappointing overall: they’d run out of Yorkshire puddings, and the mix of brown and white turkey meat lacked flavour. The vegetables, potatoes, and one pig in blanket were good. Dessert was much better. The triple chocolate brownie was exactly as described, and the Black Forest Arctic slice with boozy cherries was good too. Definitely recommend.
The pie and mash I had from their Sunday menu was so good. The Camembert starter was nice, though a bit small.
