The River Don Tavern and Lodge

We left after just one night of a three-night work booking for me and a colleague. We had two rooms, and both were in an unacceptable state, as if they hadn't been properly cleaned for a while. Given the hygiene problems and maintenance issues, we felt we had no choice but to go. My bathroom was a wet room. The shower was dangerously hot and couldn't be adjusted. When I tried to use it, clumps of hair came up from the blocked plug, so I could only splash myself briefly. I told someone at the bar that evening. The staff member was polite, came to the room and said the shower had been fixed and the plug would be cleared in the morning. In the morning the shower was still just as hot, and the blockage was still there. Water spread across the bathroom toward the toilet and into the carpet by the door. We'd booked through work, and on arrival we asked about food but were told the chef was off, so nothing was available. We were then given keys and sent to a building behind the car park. I hadn't known when booking that our rooms would be in a separate rear building. Maybe I missed that, but it wasn't clearly communicated. We wouldn't usually leave a review, but after our employer asked the hotel for a refund for the unused nights, the owner accused us of causing the dirt in the photos. To be clear, the photo showing faeces and urine around the toilet seat was taken before anyone had used the toilet. We didn't want to speak to whoever was in charge when we left, as it was early. Judging by their online replies to criticism, like “let’s get some facts straight”, we thought we'd be wasting our time.
