The food is exceptional, the rooms are lovely, and the staff are always welcoming and courteous. I’m honestly surprised this place is rated so lowly on Google. It’s one of my all-time favourite places, and it deserves its Michelin Star. It’s close to me, but the prices reflect how good it is, so I don’t come often enough to become a regular. I hope I can find enough excuses to visit again.

We were shocked by the £240 wine pairing charge when the bill came. We’d chosen a different glass with each course and appreciated the sommelier’s selections, but nobody told us the price beforehand. With the meal costing around £640 for two, that was a surprise. After a few years away, we returned to Winteringham Fields, which had long been a favourite for its intimate atmosphere, wonderful staff, and memorable food. This visit didn’t live up to those memories. The dishes were enjoyable and well executed, but lacked the “WOW” factor we expected. The dining room has changed, too. There are more tables and brighter lighting, which makes it feel more commercial and takes away the cosy warmth we remembered. Noise from the open kitchen added a constant buzz. Service used to feel discreet and seamless, but this time staff circulated so often that they distracted us. It felt like a high-end restaurant experience that could have been anywhere, rather than the unique outing we used to enjoy at Winteringham Fields. Given the changes and the cost, we won’t be rushing back.

The rooms have been nicely updated while keeping the building’s history, and staying there was a unique experience. Dinner was just as memorable: the evening tasting menu was amazing, starting with Mucky fat and their onion bread, which set a high bar that every dish after met. We tried several mocktails, all refreshing and lovely. The service was prompt, friendly, and easygoing, and the atmosphere felt welcoming. It’s worth the short drive, and we’ll be sure to come back.

The new Chef, Louis, was absolutely brilliant. Easily the best meal we’ve had at Winteringham, though Gareth and Colin are no slouches. This remains our favourite restaurant with rooms after 11 years of eating at many Michelin starred places. We love the unashamedly luxurious rooms and all the staff, from the enthusiastic youngsters to the award-winning Manager. Every visit feels like coming back to family. Long may it continue.

The service was immaculate and the atmosphere made for a perfect evening. My partner and I had a great experience, and the food was faultless. The menu kept us engaged from start to finish, and we left feeling we’d had just the right amount.
