We wished we'd booked more than a week. The cottage was beautiful and cozy, especially with the log fire burning on wet, chilly days. There was a little stream behind the house, and its faint sound came through the huge wooden back door. So peaceful. If you've got a car and don't mind the drive, Lake Windermere isn't too far away.

The decor is lovely, and shops and pubs are handy. With a dog, though, it isn't ideal: the back door is only two feet from a drop into the river, and the front door opens onto the pavement beside a bend on a busy A road. Better suited to couples or families with older children.

The beds were really comfortable in this lovely little cottage. The downside was the busy road, with lots of noise from motorbikes and tractors.

A peaceful, relaxing break in a cottage with everything I could wish for. Just perfect.
