The setting on the edge of Sedbergh gives you plenty of walks without needing to get in the car. The Howgills have stunning scenery and challenging routes, with superb 360° views from the tops. We've stayed at lots of HF properties, and this was the best. The meals were varied and well cooked, our room had a huge double bed and a good bathroom, and the staff, nearly all from EU countries, were superb, friendly, helpful and efficient.

I wouldn't say the room spoiled my holiday, but it certainly diminished it a lot. I had one of the so-called 'classic' rooms and knew in advance it had no private toilet or shower. I still wasn't expecting a tiny room with a single bed and a tiny window, more like a prison cell. HF shouldn't charge anything close to the full rate for a room this inferior. Other parts of my stay were good, which was a shame.

A very good place to stay for a walking holiday in the countryside, especially for groups. The drying room was very good, too. We felt very welcome despite the current Covid-19 restrictions. Well done to everyone who made our break so enjoyable.

There are loads of walks already planned, so it's a fantastic place for a walking holiday. It's an old house, with sloping floors in places, but that adds to the atmosphere. The food was to die for, and the service was great.
