We brought our Pooch on our trip to Sedbergh, so the dog-friendly feel was just right. The log fire made this fantastic pub wonderfully cosy, and the food was excellent, especially the perfectly cooked chips. Friendly, attentive staff too. I’ll definitely return if I’m in the area.

The fish and chips and Mac N Cheese were great, and this is a handy spot for Dales Way walkers in a nice town with plenty of amenities. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the living room. That did make the dated bathroom stand out by comparison.

The pie of the day, Steak & Ale, was stunning, and the rest of the food was delicious too. We chose The Red Lion for our first night in Sedbergh because it looked cosy and welcomed dogs. It was quiet and snug, the staff were friendly, and I’d recommend it if you’re in the area.

We tried the smoked mac & cheese with brisket, the kids menu ribs and the steak pie. The smokehouse menu was really good, and all the food was beautiful and good quality. Great staff and service, with very reasonable prices.

What a shame that rude staff let down a lovely local pub. I came in this afternoon with a group of 15. It was quiet, and I checked that it was okay for us to come in since we hadn’t booked. I made a point of being polite, and we certainly weren’t an obnoxious group. Still, the service was some of the worst I’ve had in a long time. The pub was almost empty, so I’d have thought they’d be glad of the business. The two staff members behind the bar were passive aggressive and didn’t smile once. When one person in our group needed an extra moment because his phone wasn’t working properly for payment, one of them said “Jesus Christ” in an annoyed tone, then blamed him to another customer for being too slow. I wondered if it was just an issue with the first group, so after the other half of our group arrived and had been served, I asked what they thought. They had similar things to say about the service.
