The Greyhound Inn

We'd definitely stay again. The staff were friendly and very helpful, and the breakfast was lovely, with plenty of choice and enough to set you up for the day. It also made the room price feel like great value. The room itself was a good size, very comfortable, and had some great quality extras.

The people were pleasant, and we enjoyed a nice dinner and a fine breakfast during our Coast to Coast walk. We also loved taking part in the pub quiz. It was great, thank you. Kind regards, Pieter & Constanze

The setting and the outside of the hotel are wonderful, and the staff were all very friendly and welcoming. My husband had surprised me with an anniversary trip, and the hotel kindly upgraded our room. The drive into Shap through the countryside was lovely, and the view from our huge room over fields and mountains was hard to fault. At first the room looked gorgeous. Cleanliness let our stay down. The overflowing car park bin was still full after all three nights. I understand flies are part of living in the countryside, and sticky traps on the restaurant windows made sense, but there were so many tiny fly carcasses in our en-suite. The bathroom fan was visibly dirty, and when I wiped a little water off the floor with a hand towel, it turned brown. I don't know when that floor was last cleaned. There was also quite a bit of mould between the shower tiles. The sign outside shone through the window all night, and the bedroom blinds were thin enough that light came through even when closed. The food was a little expensive as well. We didn't raise these things with management. We didn't want to make a fuss, weren't there for long, and my husband said there hadn't been many rooms left when he booked, so it seemed we'd already been given the best room. The breakfast and food were lovely, and I couldn't fault the service. My disappointment was mainly about the cleanliness. If they improve that and take this feedback on board, I'm sure the hotel could get 5/5 across the board.

I'm writing this during my C2C Walk. Steph gave me a really warm welcome, showed me the rooms, and took my walking gear to wash and dry. The beer on tap was great too. After all that walking, the bath in my room felt like the best bath ever. Very glad we came and met such a great host.
