The food was plentiful and homely, and the cosy bar had comfy seats and a gas “coal” fire. This is a welcoming country pub with rooms. The rooms may be a little small, but the furnishings and fittings are excellent. There’s an Illy coffee machine and fresh milk in the fridge, which made for a great start. Check-in was very welcoming, and I’ll stay here again.

The owners, John, Jackie and Alex, are so kind to people in the local community and further afield. They always make time for others, take on challenges as a strong unit, and help people even when they’re busy. Wishing them and their families a merry Christmas and a happy, healthy new year 😊 I visit with friends, with my teenagers, and on my own, and always feel looked after and relaxed. The owners and staff bring such a warm welcome to a beautiful location, and the rooms are outstanding. The decor, how the food is presented, the flavours and the premium, clean, crisp drinks are all so thoughtfully done. It makes for a perfect dining experience. It’s a perfect place, and I’ve never heard anyone say otherwise!!!!

Just off the M1, we stopped for lunch on the way from Bedfordshire to Harrogate. The pub was clean and nicely presented, with friendly, quick service. There’s a good menu, including sandwiches and pizzas, and our lunch was delicious. Would recommend!

The breakfast was delicious, a three course meal included in the stay, and the morning service was just as good as dinner the night before. After our tasty three courses at dinner, we joined a table of locals and enjoyed live music from a talented local artist. The staff and chefs helped make this a really memorable visit, and we’ll certainly book again. We’d booked a weekend away at the Devonshire Arms, including a room and dinner. From the first call, John was charming, friendly and helpful, and booking was easy. Before checking in, we walked around beautiful Chatsworth house, about 30 minutes away. John remembered us when we arrived and welcomed us just as warmly. Everyone on shift greeted us and made sure we had what we needed. Our room was beautiful, clean and well presented, with stylish decor. We got a useful rundown of the housekeeping details and were shown the complimentary tea and coffee station. They reminded us about our dinner booking and let us relax. Dinner was an incredible feast from a remarkable menu. The staff explained the dishes and made recommendations with a smile. The owner even came over to show her appreciation for our choices, including the Pork Tasting Plate from the specials menu. The chef did a fantastic job, and the meal was delicious.

The Devonshire Arms is a lovely country pub with accommodation, and we had a superb two-night break this week in the good weather. The rooms were faultless, the food was excellent quality and good value, and every member of staff was friendly, efficient and attentive. Nicola, the Manager, was incredibly helpful and gave us discount vouchers for nearby attractions. It’s a little way from the Peak District, but the surrounding countryside is just as beautiful, with several country estates within reasonable driving distance. We had a wonderful day at Chatsworth. There’s also a bus stop right outside, which we plan to use on our next visit. I can’t recommend it highly enough. Thanks, Devonshire Arms.
