We spent a whole day at Maplestone recharging after a busy few days, and it was such a peaceful place to do it. Alan seems to think of everything, from guest needs and the rooms to the shared space, garden and breakfast. The whole place is spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated, and it’s handy for central restaurants, Shepton Mallet prison and public transport. Alan also has great local suggestions. We couldn't get his delicious morning compote recipe out of him, so we had to be content with enjoying it each morning. One of the best B&Bs we’ve stayed in, and what a wonderful find.

Alan even helped me out with safety pins after I accidentally made a hole in my dress with the iron. He was that kind throughout our stay. We were there for two nights for a wedding in October, travelling quite a distance, and Alan met us late at night to show us to our accommodation. There was parking near Maplestone, too. Our place was cozy and spacious, with a living area, shower room, toilet and bedroom, and Alan provided an extra bed for our friend. Breakfast was shared with the other guests in the main building, where Alan told us about local sites, the prison and the market. I really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Maplestone made our four nights in Somerset last spring especially memorable, and Alan is a big part of that. His breakfast chats, wit and useful advice, particularly about restaurants, added a lot to the stay. The 17th-century cottage has been tastefully refurbished, and the accommodation, furnishings and bedding were all just right. Breakfast was among the best we had in the UK. It’s also well placed for exploring Somerset, from Wells nearby to the local artisan cideries. Alan has all the qualities of a good host, and Maplestone is an attraction in its own right.

We’ve just got home from two nights at Maplestone, and I was ready to write a glowing review as soon as we arrived. The property is stunning and our room was beautiful. Alan is such a warm, reassuring host, and all his suggestions for what to do and where to go were spot on. We joked that he’d have the fire brigade bring bolt cutters to get us out if we chained ourselves to the room. I’d happily have stayed a few more nights, and if I had my way, we’d be back much sooner than next year. Maplestone has a place firmly in my heart now, and we’re planning to make it a yearly short break. The house is gorgeous, but Alan is what makes staying there so pleasant. Thank you so much, see you next year.

I don't usually review places I've stayed, but the owner deserves a mention for service that went above and beyond. My room was airy and spotless, with every amenity considered, and breakfast was the best I've had in UK accommodation. I'd highly recommend it.
