Holiday Inn Express Shrewsbury by IHG

The manager and her staff are a credit to the hotel and the hotel industry. I wish more places had a team like this. We stayed in February with our two kids, and from the moment we arrived, the staff were so kind to them and made everything easy. They even brought over some ice cream for the kids after dinner. Sorry this took so long to write, and I can't remember the staff members' names now, but they were the best team we've seen in any hotel in the UK or abroad.

Breakfast needs some work. The space is small and gets overcrowded, and the food seemed rushed, which hurt the quality. Hot food would run out quickly, and staff kept having to explain that more was on its way. I felt sorry for them. The staff were great, friendly and helpful, especially Zara, who went above and beyond for my wife and me.

The location was great, parking was good and the staff were lovely. It was ideal for the family events we were visiting for. Some parts of the place could use an update, though. The decor was decent, but some screws were missing or needed tightening, the shower door was rusty along the bottom and the shower smelled of drains and needed attention. The sheet and duvet cover also had small holes.

Check-in went smoothly, the room was comfortable and the price was good, but breakfast was a major disappointment. We went down at 10:10 on Saturday after being told at check-in that it was served until 10:30, which the sign also says for weekends. There was almost nothing left. The staff member told us the kitchen closes at 10:00, so no more food was coming. There were no eggs, beans, tomato, croissants or muffins, just dried bacon and a few sausages.
