The Alb

Took the kids on a Saturday afternoon and it was a really fun, welcoming pub, with good access for them. We had two pizzas and a round of drinks, all at a very reasonable price. Great value food and drinks, and the service was great. We’ll definitely go back.

We’d booked a bottomless brunch for nine people months ahead. Two members of our group were still on their way when we arrived, and staff asked if we wanted to start ordering. We agreed and chose drinks from the bottomless brunch menu. Once everyone had arrived, we ordered more drinks, then paid for the brunch and ordered food. The food was awful. The chicken cheese Mac was basically two processed chicken dippers on pasta, topped with a lot of melted, flavourless cheese. Service was friendly but slow, and some drinks were missed. As we were leaving, we were told we had to pay for the drinks ordered before the rest of the group arrived. Nobody had made clear that those drinks weren’t included in the brunch, even though we’d ordered them during our booked slot from the bottomless brunch menu. There was an argument with the manager, and after a long discussion one person in our group was escorted out. I can’t recommend the alb for bottomless brunch.

The coffee came quickly, but the pudding never did. I was there with my wife, with only 40 minutes before our bus, and we’d paid £19.90 for two coffees and pudding. After waiting 10 minutes, I asked about it and was told there was no record of the pudding order. I showed the card receipt and was offered free coffee and puddings next time, but we had to leave five minutes before the bus. I like the Alb, but £19.90 for two coffees and no pudding, plus an extremely grumpy wife, wasn’t good enough. I used to spend at least £100 a month there while waiting for the bus. They’ve lost my trade.

We came for a hen party and bottomless brunch, but the food was poor and the service was slow. Staff seemed incompetent, and there was no clear communication about the booking. We were told it started at 1pm, ordered drinks, then found out at the end that we had to pay for the drinks we’d had before the rest of the party arrived.
