The food was tasty and reasonably priced, and both the staff and the locals made us feel at home. We’d walked over the hills with our cocker spaniel and hadn’t booked, but luckily there was a free table in the dog-friendly bar. Even a Thursday lunchtime in winter can get busy here, so we were glad to find a spot.

We were able to enjoy a lovely lunch on Saturday, and the pub itself is really lovely. What made the biggest difference, though, was how the staff helped us during the snowstorm. Our Airbnb driveway was completely blocked, leaving the three of us with nowhere to leave our cars. The workers were understanding and let us park in the pub car park for two days. Without their help our holiday would have been ruined. We can’t thank them enough.

Everyone enjoyed the puddings, and there was a good choice of food for the whole group, including someone with major food allergies. The dishes were cooked and presented well. We managed to book a table for 15 with only a couple of days’ notice, and when some of our party had a medical issue on the way, the staff kindly let us wait an extra hour. They were helpful and friendly throughout. On a wet Saturday lunchtime in September, the cosy bar was lively with locals, which seemed a good sign.

The Sunday dinner was fantastic. The pub was packed, but the staff stayed friendly and welcoming, and were happy to help with anything. I’d highly recommend it.
