We stayed at the Salty Monk for one night at the end of May on our way to Cornwall with our little dog. From check-in to check-out, the service was impeccable, and there were thoughtful touches in the room like fresh milk, biscuits and dog bits. The room itself was lovely too. Our dog gets anxious around other dogs and can bark, scream or talk to herself, so meals can be tricky. I asked whether we could eat in the room, and they sorted out a beautiful three-course meal there for us. We also had a stunning bottle of Lebanese wine, all while our dog felt safe and comfortable. Breakfast was brought to our room on trays and served perfectly. I'm happy to pay good money and expect good service, but this stay was a bit different. Every part of it felt so carefully done: the politeness and conversation, the food, room, drinks at the bar, garden, parking and both check-in and check-out. They even got the little touches right, things they didn't have to do, but that made it great. Thanks for such an enjoyable stay. Secretly I hope people don't book so I can always get a room when I come back, but you deserve to be fully booked!

We had a wonderful evening for our celebration dinner. The close-knit staff were friendly and attentive, and you could tell they were a happy team. Each dish was carefully thought through, beautifully presented and high quality. Chef clearly puts a lot of care into the food. Thanks for making it such a special memory.

For our anniversary dinner we booked a table here, and it was a great choice. The chef is clearly passionate and experienced, with fresh dishes made to order. Our host was excellent and so friendly. We're hard to please, and this was a complete endorsement. We'll be back with friends. If you're reading this, go ahead and book a table!

The peaceful night and tasty breakfast were just what we needed before getting back on the road. My husband and I had a fabulous evening here, with delicious vegetarian food, great local wines and fantastic dinner service. Our clean, comfortable room was well equipped. We had a suite with its own living room and a jacuzzi bath. We'll definitely return whenever we're in the area.

The room was very nice, and breakfast was on point. My wife brought me here for my birthday last weekend, and we both enjoyed the four-course dinner. Our waiter was relaxed and attentive. I would've liked some light music in the background, but with the overall attention to detail, that was okay.
