County Hotel

The original Art Deco details on the ground floor look gorgeous, and the building has a lovely history with the Bateman family, known for their magnificent ale. Breakfast was incredible, with loads to choose from and as much as you wanted. Everyone working there was awesome. Our room was clean and extremely comfortable, though it could use a fresh coat of paint.

The staff were friendly, the service was good, and breakfast was very good. But I was glad to get home after two nights. The rooms are extremely dated, and the bath and shower were so grotty I couldn't bring myself to use either. There is a lift, though it really seems suitable only for staff. A huge mobile phone tower sits on the roof, oddly missing from the booking photos. The room had a tiny TV chained to the table and a remote with no battery cover.

A sea view from my room was a really nice surprise, and breakfast is included in the price. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff friendly, though the hotel itself is a bit dated. There’s a bath and shower together, plus you can make a hot drink in your room. There’s no food service in the rooms, but you can eat downstairs or go out. Parking is limited to a small area behind the hotel, then it’s roadside parking if you’re lucky. I’d stay here again.

The evening bar really needs improving. There’s nothing welcoming about the room, so we didn’t feel like sitting in for a drink, even though we would have liked one. The staff were lovely and helpful, breakfast was good, and management was very good. The hotel itself feels very tired and needs a lot of updating and decorating.
