Furnival Lodge

The staff were easygoing and friendly, and the room was clean. I was there for two nights on a work trip and didn't manage to try breakfast, though it smelled lovely in the morning. The prices were reasonable. I'd stay again.

It turned out much better than I expected. I'd heard some unpromising things and was a bit doubtful when I booked, but the staff were polite and very helpful. The rooms are a decent size for the price and were clean and presentable. It was quiet and cheap too. I'd book again if work brings me this way.

Tea and coffee are in a shared area rather than in the room. The bed had a blanket with a fleece cover instead of a duvet, and I wonder how well that fleece can be cleaned between guests since it must be quite heavy. It has the feel of budget accommodation.

I booked a double room for two nights because I needed somewhere cheap while moving to another place, and I had my partner and only child with me. We also had six or seven bags after moving to this country. The owner wouldn't let us into the hotel, saying there was too much luggage, although I couldn't find any luggage limit mentioned on the lodge's website. It was raining, and I had no other option at the time. He then said we could stay, but at £75 a night instead of the £32 a night I'd booked for. Even after I paid that, some of our bags were left in an open area with a leaky roof, and rain damaged some of our things. I feel the owner took advantage of my unfamiliarity with the country's rules. I consider this fraud and gave the lodge zero because of what happened. I hope others don't get cheated this way.
