Haigs Hotel

The only four good things I can say about this 'hotel' are that the TV programme selection is large, breakfast was okay, the staff are friendly and the location is okay. The first room I got was room 20, and it should not be rented in that state. The shower rail was broken, dead insects were on the floor, there was mould in the window corners, and holes around the shower had been sealed very badly. The sink was broken too, and it was freezing at night. After I complained, they moved me to room 4, which was better. But its bed linen had stains from whatever the previous guest had left behind. The shower gave only cold water, even after I ran it for ten minutes on every setting. I did use the switch on the ceiling to turn it on first. The function rooms are nice, but the hotel rooms I stayed in need a full refund as soon as possible. The interiors are outdated, with old carpet and bathrooms that are a nightmare. I understand updating rooms is expensive, but checking that the shower works, the linen is clean and the floors are clean is just a cleaning job, not rocket science. This was the worst hotel experience I've had for centuries.

I've never stayed at Haigs, so I can't comment on the rooms. I did recently eat there, though, and was met by an unpleasant smell as soon as I walked in. The food was adequate at best, and the place is definitely due for a refurb. Sadly, I don't think I'll return for a meal.

We stayed for two nights. The room was pleasant and clean, and the bed was comfortable. Staff were helpful and pleasant. We had two very nice dinners, although the menu was somewhat limited, and the full English breakfast was excellent. My one criticism is that there's no light above the dressing-table mirror.

We spent a few days here exploring the area and felt very much at home. It's a great family hotel, with comfortable, clean accommodation and food that was fresh, tasty and hot. The staff were excellent and professional. I'd recommend it without hesitation.
