The Unicorn

The service at the Unicorn was pleasant and helpful, but the meal left all three of us disappointed. We went for lunch because our usual pub, The Quarry, has stopped serving food while it awaits new ownership. The menu felt limited, with only a few large meals, which didn’t suit my two pensioner friends, who prefer a smaller meal. We all chose the cheapest option, ham, eggs and chips at £14. The ham tasted pleasantly sweet, though it was sliced rather haphazardly. The eggs were overcooked and oily, and the triple-cooked chips were dark brown, burnt, soft and full of oil. We couldn’t eat the chips. The coffee was clearly packet coffee, and the food was expensive for what it was. We used to come to the Unicorn often a couple of years ago, when the menu was much better and the food more palatable than what we had this time. We wouldn’t chance another visit.

The food was good and the portions were generous. The only letdown was that there was no Wi-Fi for the family.

The staff were dismissive and rude, and treated us like a burden instead of paying customers, as though we owed them something for being there. There was no warmth or professionalism, and the service completely ruined the experience. Absolutely awful, I wouldn’t recommend it.

The Sunday roast was absolutely amazing, and the staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. To top it off, the whole team came out with the birthday cake we’d brought and sang happy birthday to our friend. Highly recommend!
