The Millbrook Inn

My colleague and I visited a while ago, so apologies for the late review. The staff knew so much about the pub’s history. It’s a cozy, family-run place that welcomes dogs and children and has wheelchair access. The portions were more than adequate. I really enjoyed the chicken salad, and my colleague is still raving about his steak. We’ll be back, five stars all round.

Just awful. We didn’t get drinks until just before the main course, and there was a 35-minute wait between starter and main. My steak came rare to medium instead of well done, and the burger was cold. The chips seemed frozen and had black bits in them. The kitchen looked like a mess when I walked past, and the 'Executive Chef' was standing there giggling with the other staff.

We booked lunch for 28th August 2025 for my wife’s birthday. The village is beautiful and the restaurant is nicely decorated, but our experience ended there. No one greeted us at the bar, so we waited five minutes before being taken to our table. It hadn’t been set, and after we were left there I had to ask for the right tableware. It took 30 minutes for someone to take our order, then another 40 for the food to arrive. For £59, we got two sandwiches, two drinks and chips, and the food was poor for the price. The steak in my steak sandwich was very chewy, and the fish fingers in the other sandwich didn’t taste fresh. We also had to ask twice for sauces for the chips. We found the restaurant in the Michelin guide, and the well over 100 places we’ve visited from that guide have met or exceeded expectations. This one didn’t meet the guide’s high standards.

The steak and lamb are both worth trying, and the Negroni was spot on. We liked the cozy atmosphere and attentive staff, and were glad to hear much of the produce and meat is sourced locally. We had dinner at the Millbrook on Friday night in a beautiful village. Good to know you can boat here too for a future visit.
