Mill Dam Guest House

I’ve stayed at this guest house a few times and find the hosts really friendly and welcoming. It’s tucked away but still close to the town centre and a supermarket. I like having a private room with an en-suite, TV and little fridge, and not having to fit breakfast into a set timetable. It suits what I need. If you’re after five star accommodation, this probably isn’t the place, but I’ll definitely stay again.

We arrived at 3 and were shown to a tiny room at the back that looked nothing like the pictures. It cost £50, £11 more than Travelodge or Premier Inn. There was an immediate smell of damp and urine. The beds were damp and hadn’t been changed, the shower was filthy, the remote didn’t work, and the toilet had damp, smelly carpet in it. A ceiling hatch was left half open. The towels were wet, smelled musty and weren’t clean, and there were pubic hairs on the toilet seat. I woke up coughing in the damp room and have bites all over my left leg from bugs. The whole stay was disgusting and unpleasant. Never again, and I’d avoid this place.

Victoria was so kind and helpful while we struggled to arrange everything and work it all out. She was patient, friendly and always willing to help. I’ll book here again and would recommend the place to everyone I know. Thanks to Victoria and the folks at Mill Dam.

I’ve stayed four times, and on each of my last two visits I found hair on the bed and a blood stain on the quilt cover. Seeing that makes me wonder whether the bedding was changed at all. Communication could be quicker too.
