The Inn at Stainley

Breakfast had plenty of options for different tastes, and the food was incredible. We also had dinner in the restaurant and loved it. Our lodge room was spotless, warm and cosy, with a lovely garden view from its own decked area. Everything felt modern and luxurious, right down to the slippers and bathrobes. The staff were so friendly and helpful, and it all felt like great value for a luxury stay. We can’t wait to come back.

That cold roast beef sandwich was packed with beef, and the sauce was amazing. I’d stopped at The Inn for a quick lunch halfway through a bike ride, mainly to fill up, and was genuinely surprised by how tasty it was. I’m planning to come back with friends for a dog walk and try more of the menu. Highly recommended!

The small number of rooms gives The Inn South Stainley a calm, cosy feel, which we really liked. Our room was fresh, spotless, and had a wonderfully comfortable bed. We also enjoyed the private outdoor seating area overlooking the garden, a peaceful spot to relax after a long day. Dinner was good value with its three-course menu, and the food was well thought out and enjoyable. Breakfast came with the room and felt like a treat, with cold choices and freshly cooked hot dishes served with a slightly “posh” touch. We’ve saved this place for future trips to the area. I’d happily recommend it to anyone after a comfortable, charming stay.

The rooms were clean, but they were dark and noisy. One TV had sound but no picture, and when we told staff, all we got was, “Oh dear, that’s odd.” The problem wasn’t fixed. Service was poor throughout. Staff were often unresponsive and barely acknowledged people waiting to check in, order drinks, or be seated for dinner. On the first evening, our food took over an hour. One person in our group had to cancel his meal because of a work meeting, and nobody apologized or explained the delay. The next night’s food was just as disappointing: burnt burgers, cold fish that was overcooked, and hardly any sides. We booked because Harrogate hotels were full or very expensive, and we needed somewhere close to the Yorkshire Event Centre. Simon told us it was only 10 minutes away and quoted £304.20 for two nights plus £125.10 for an extra room. He never made clear that those rates were per night. I only found out about the mistake after more than £700 had been charged to our card. When I contacted Simon, he said he’d speak to management and call back with a gesture of goodwill over the misunderstanding. He never called. Later, the manager seemed not to know anything about it. Given what we paid and the complete lack of care during our stay, the experience was very disappointing.
