The Borough

We needed a room at the last minute because a relative was in hospital, and the staff were so accommodating and kind. The room was clean and comfortable, and breakfast was included, with plenty of tasty choices. I can’t praise the team enough. I’d highly recommend the hotel and bar, and we’ll stay again, hopefully in happier circumstances. Thanks to everyone.

We were staying here while visiting my dad in ICU, so we really needed a warm, comfortable place to rest. The room itself was beautiful, the pub food was lovely, and the supervisor and staff were genuinely excellent. But the owners let the stay down badly and seemed to show little concern for our comfort. The heating wasn’t working. We told staff straight away, and the supervisor kindly brought an electric heater, but it couldn’t warm a room that size, with high ceilings, in freezing weather. We were extremely cold all night. The next day there was still no heat, and the shower only stayed hot for about two minutes. By the time my mum had showered and I went in, the water was completely cold. The supervisor contacted the owners and was told nothing could be done. We asked for compensation because basic things like heating and hot water weren’t available. They offered just £30 each towards a meal, which felt completely inadequate in the circumstances.

The meal I had with a friend the other day was excellent. There was a mix-up with our order, but it was sorted quickly, cheerfully and generously. Definitely worth going back.

I’ve stayed here with family and the dogs as well as for work, and the welcome is always the same. The rooms are huge, comfortable and well equipped, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the location is good. I’ve only tried breakfast, but it’s been superb every time. There’s plenty in the bar too, including Lune Brew Pale Ale, a great local beer. Plenty of hotels nearby, but this one does things really well. I should have left a review sooner.
