The room was small but neat, and I was shown to it around 5 after returning from a drive. I hadn’t realised when booking dinner that the rooms were outside chalet style, like an American motel, and up an outside staircase. I’d asked for a bath and for my friend and me to have rooms next door to each other, but got neither. The TV was mounted quite high and switched off at the socket, so I had to climb on a chair to turn it on. The remote wouldn’t change the channel or volume, only bring up a menu, and I had to get back on the chair to switch it off again. I wish the woman I called to book dinner had explained the setup. The food was very average. My pie was so hot in the middle that I suspect it had been microwaved, while the edges were warm. There was just one member of staff checking in customers, and he was also waiting tables and working the bar. Check in was at 4, but when we arrived just before then, the place was dark and locked up. The whole place seemed short on customers and staff, and lacked any sparkle. The room cost £98, which felt £50 too much to me. You can stay at a Premier Inn for less and get a decent bed and TV. I won’t be back.

I hardly slept because the pillows were so hard and uncomfortable. A shame, as the decorative cushions looked like they were down filled. The bedroom and bathroom were clean and great, and most of the staff were friendly and helpful. A few seemed new and unsure about the menu and drinks. The Sunday roast stay was good value, and I’d definitely recommend it.

The evening meal and breakfast were both delicious, fresh and home cooked. The woman working there was lovely and worked so hard, always ready to help even when she was on her own. The rooms were clean and tidy, though the heating was turned up so high it felt like an oven when we first came in. We’d definitely stay again if we need somewhere in the area.

We had a lovely stay, with helpful staff and well equipped rooms with a great shower. It was a perfect spot for our event, with picturesque surroundings and a lovely pub.

The food and drinks were fine, and the service from the man on duty was very good. A young woman on her first shift was exceptionally polite and welcoming too. I’d book again next time I’m in the area. It’s a nice, quiet hotel out in the sticks. My room was very nice and clean, though I had a couple of spiders for company, with a web woven in the lovely rain shower. There was plenty of flavoured tea and coffee, plus nice cookies. The quilt was quite thin, so I wasn’t very warm through the night, but the heating worked well and I needed to switch it on for a while.
