Alcantara Guest House

The large dining room and hot tea were appreciated, but there were a lot of problems. The room wasn’t heated, so I slept in a sweater and cap, and nobody replied to my messages. The commode seat was loose, which made finishing up difficult and a bit risky. The shower flash-heater needs maintenance too, as the water swung suddenly from scalding hot to freezing. The promised clothes-dryer wasn’t available because the cleaning-lady needed it for work.

Check-in went well and the location is good, but that’s about where the positives ended. We only stayed one night, which was enough. The room carpets were dirty and badly fitted, the stairs were stained, and the shower was gross and wouldn’t drain. The pillows were flat and uncomfortable.

I love this little Guest House. The owner made us feel very welcome, and breakfast was so tasty. The rooms were clean and tidy, though some are on the small side. They still have everything you need. I’ll be staying here on my next trip to Southampton.

My sister and I stayed overnight before a cruise, and this guest house was a great find. The proprietor was extremely welcoming, and our room was very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, made fresh to order with locally sourced food. I’ll definitely add this place to my address book and can highly recommend it.
