The bed was comfortable, and the shower room was very good. The kitchenette had plenty of equipment, though you’ll want to bring tea towels. Entry directions for the building and room arrive by phone at midday before you get there. Watch the sat nav, as there’s more than one Canal Walk. We had no WiFi during our stay and used roaming data instead.

We rented the apartment for eight months, and we were inexperienced renters, which the owner knew. When we moved in, we didn’t ask for the bathroom to be put in order and found the room absolutely filthy. Dampness led to mushrooms growing in the bathroom all winter, and there was mold even though we turned on the heating before showers. There was also a rat in the room, but the Greek owner responded quickly to that. When the tenancy ended, he charged us £500 for things that previous tenants may have damaged, including bathroom repairs he said he’d done after us, even though the ceiling had leaked. We tried to dispute it, but it became an extremely stressful ordeal. We paid rather than risk further trouble and left. Be careful with this owner and don’t let him deceive you as he did us.
