The hostess kindly let me check in early, which I really appreciated after an overnight flight without sleep and arriving with a badly damaged suitcase. The only real drawback was the steep flight of multiple steps up to the rooms. Since I was staying just one night, I could leave my main suitcase downstairs. The room was convenient, clean, quiet, and well equipped, with a private bathroom, TV, and tea and coffee supplies. The neighborhood was also very quiet, with pubs and convenience shops an easy walk away. It’s about a 25-minute walk to the city centre, a bit of a hike, but taxis were easy to get and, in my opinion, cheap. No complaints.

The owner was welcoming and very helpful. The bed linen was crisp and spotless, and both the shower and loo were very clean. Still, the room was grim once I looked more closely. The bathroom was tiny and carpeted throughout, even around the shower and toilet. It had no extractor fan, perhaps why the window seals were stained with mildew. There were hairs on the bathroom floor, and the shower head wouldn’t stay up, so I had to hold it to shower. The power came from an extension lead, the bedside unit was rickety, and the insides of the drawers were minging. The TV was at the end of one bed, making it hard to see from the other. There was no view, just small windows close to the ceiling, and the bed head had come away from the wall.

The bathroom switch was grimy, and I found hair in the bed as well as clumps on the carpet. They'd left a puppy training pad in place of a bath mat. The room was dirty.

It's about a 20-minute walk to West Quay, and parking is free. The location is great, but the place feels really dated and the duvet smelled of body odour.

There was plenty of parking at the back, and it was a quiet place. My single room, though, was tiny, you could barely swing a cat. The heating wouldn't switch off, so it stayed quite warm even with the window open overnight. The host was friendly and shared lots of city tips while we had a beer from the house bar. The weather was too bad for us to make use of them, so we went to the Pig and Whistle Pub, just a five-minute walk up the street.
