I was looking at Google Maps recently and spotted this place again. I lived here for a while before moving to the US in 2021-2022, when I was just getting started in life, so it brought back memories and prompted this long overdue review. I really liked the location, and my landlord Baz was easy to talk to. He returned my deposit without any trouble. I hope to stay here again when we visit the UK.

I've been back to Landguard House on and off for about 10 years, especially lately for work nearby, and I wouldn't choose anywhere else. It's quiet, I've always felt safe, and the owner has consistently been helpful and accommodating. Rooms have been clean and tidy every time, warm in winter, with a fan for summer. The en-suite shower has been immaculate, the water hot with decent pressure, and the towels and bedding fresh. I've never had a problem. The location just off Shirley Road is handy, with good pubs, bars, restaurants, and shops a few minutes away. There's a dining area with cups, plates, and cutlery, plus a fridge and microwave for food you bring. Breakfast is help-yourself, with cereal, toast, tea, coffee, milk, and so on. There's also tea and coffee in the room and excellent Wi-Fi. It's not Buckingham Palace, and yes, there are stairs. But for the price it's genuinely very good, and I have no hesitation recommending it.

Dreadful. The room was damaged, with broken, dangerous furniture. There were rips and holes, stains, and blood and other fluids on the pillows. An elderly guest travelling alone was offered a noisy lower room or this top-floor room after we had already arrived. We reported it before leaving, but a refund was refused after we disputed the matter. We were threatened with further action, and are now being offered a night's refund as a bribe to remove this review.

The family room was more than big enough for our couple of nights in Southampton. It had a nice en-suite shower and toilet, and the breakfast had a great selection. Everyone was welcoming. I'd consider staying here on a future visit.

I've stayed over three separate times, and each visit was excellent. Landguard House is clean, comfortable, and welcoming, and I felt safe travelling alone. The breakfast is super, and the host was happy to call a taxi for me. There's also a chippy just a short walk away, and the windows open properly if you want some fresh air.
