Camelia Hotel

I was in Southend for work in a gloomy January, and the Camelia Hotel was a comfortable, good-value base for exploring the area. The sea view from the room's large window was lovely, even in that weather, and the room was immaculate. The bathroom had clearly been upgraded and was excellent too. Free parking round the back was much appreciated. Breakfast was spot on, with cooked and continental choices, and the staff made us feel welcome throughout. The bar is a relaxed place to chat with other travellers. Liam and his colleague were especially friendly and efficient, though sorry, I can't remember her name. I'd happily recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Southend.

The rooms were comfortable, clean and nicely presented, and the food was amazing. My partner and I had a genuinely lovely weekend here. The staff made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. There was a small issue with our room at first, but they sorted it quickly and professionally. They even moved us to a superior room without us having to ask, which was a thoughtful touch. A special thank you to Sara, who was so lovely and made the stay even more enjoyable. I'd absolutely recommend this hotel for a relaxing break with your partner. We'll be back!

The full breakfast was really delicious, and the staff were friendly and helpful. My double room, booked for one, looked modern and stylish. The bed was very comfortable, and the shower was large and great. I was disappointed there weren't any biscuits with the tea. A few things needed attention when I arrived. The bathroom light switch and extractor seemed faulty and linked, so after I turned off the light, the extractor kept running noisily for 45 minutes and delayed my first night's sleep. The TV remote wouldn't turn off the TV, and the heated towel rail was cold, with blue oily stuff dripping from the bottom right pipe. Everything was fixed very quickly the next morning.

The afternoon tea was lovely and fresh, just what you'd expect and more. Service was perfect and the atmosphere was amazing 👏. I can't say whether the rooms deserve five stars since I only came for tea, but I'd definitely have afternoon tea here again.
