The Ship Hotel

The food was a real highlight. Dinner was delicious, and we came back in the morning for another tasty meal, with a varied menu and plenty of cocktail choices, even breakfast cocktails. The restaurant feels modern but cosy, and the staff were enthusiastic and welcoming from the moment we arrived. Everything was spotless, and our room had one of the most comfortable beds I've slept in. The road on the corner is very busy, but we were in a front room and the double glazing kept it quiet. We were lucky to get a parking space, so check where to park if one hasn't been allocated. Across from the hotel, the railway bridge leads straight to the beach and Old Leigh, with its pubs and restaurants. Leigh high street, its shops and quirky cafes are a short walk away. A lovely hotel for a visit to Leigh-on-sea.

The food at Saturday lunch was incredible. The chicken was so tender it fell apart like salmon, and the pie came with an unbelievably rich gravy. You can tell the chefs care about quality. Service struck a great balance, with the polish of a high-end restaurant and the warmth of a local place. I'd definitely recommend it.

Our beds and pillows were really comfortable, and everything was very clean. We spent two nights there over Christmas with our German Shepherd, and the staff were faultless and very accommodating about having the dog in the room. Breakfast was delicious, and the private car park behind the hotel has charging points for electric cars. Thanks for a lovely stay.

The roast at Sunday lunch was good and the portions were generous, though one starter could have been better. Our waitress noticed that we'd left some of it and asked sincerely if we'd enjoyed it. She wanted to pass feedback to the kitchen, rather than just asking out of politeness. That was refreshing and reflected the excellent service from the moment we arrived.
