We went with our older, well-behaved dog on a cold evening, and were shown to a table quickly despite the large car park being busy. The staff were attentive and answered our questions. The menu isn't huge, but the food is done well, and our meals arrived piping hot with great quality and presentation. I can recommend the pie. We were taken there by the in-laws, and it's tucked away off the beaten track, but well worth the trip. I didn't stay in the rooms, so can't comment on them.

We only stopped in for drinks, so I can't say anything about the rooms. The Alma is a country pub tucked among winding country lanes, with a big car park that tends to fill up at mealtimes. There's a good selection of food and drinks, plus an open fire that makes a cold evening feel welcoming. Dogs are allowed, though I'm not sure if they have to stay in the bar.

Ellie from The Alma Inn was especially friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We spent three nights there, and the bedroom was clean and comfortable, with fresh towels daily and clean bedding on request. The food was very nice, with lots of choice, and there were two good real ales, including Taylors Landlord. The bar was popular and full of friendly people, and our dog was made very welcome. We enjoyed the views and the bus stop right outside. We took the bus and train to Hebden Bridge for its cafes, pubs, market, artisan shops and lovely atmosphere, then drove to Halifax to see Piece Hall and browse the good cafes and independent shops. There are plenty of great dog walks nearby. We'd definitely stay again.

The staff were brilliant and nothing seemed too much trouble. Special thanks to Pods, a lovely person and a hard worker. Our room was superb, especially the view from Room 2. The place is very dog friendly, and both breakfast and dinner were top notch. We had pizza and fish and chips in the evening. From checking in to checking out, everything was faultless.

I’m coeliac, and the dessert mix-up left me very ill. After our family ordered three steaks, much of the meat was so tough we couldn’t cut it, though the pieces we could manage tasted good. The waiting staff were lovely, passed our feedback to the chef and offered a free dessert. I was glad to see sticky toffee pudding as an option and checked that it was gluten free before eating. Staff confirmed it was, and it tasted amazing. A few moments later, the same person came back to say it wasn’t gluten free after all. They apologised and substantially reduced the bill, but I was left very ill. Coeliac disease is a medical condition I can’t control, not a choice. If you need gluten-free food, don’t eat here.
