Travelodge Spalding

The room was clean and the bed comfortable, though the rooms are getting increasingly basic. There were no bathmats, drawers or shelves for clothes. Parking was plentiful and the location is amazing. The main drawback for us was the very strong, unpleasant dog smell when we opened the fire door onto the corridor.

Scott at reception gave us a warm welcome, and Sabrina had made sure our room was very clean. Being on the edge of Spalding made getting there and leaving easy, and the outlet park location meant there was a good restaurant for dinner. No complaints from me, and I’ll stay here again next time I visit Spalding.

We had a sound night’s sleep during our one-night stay, with no problems, and parking was cheap. There were three beds in the room, though we only used one. Food choices nearby are surprisingly limited for a hotel attached to a shopping centre. The Petalo lounge was excellent but quite expensive. McDonald’s was also pricey and absolutely intolerable, one of the worst McDonald’s on the planet. Recommended.

We booked an adapted room. It was a typical Travelodge room, basic but clean, with no bedside tables. The bathroom felt cold, as there’s no heated towel rail. We brought our dog and his bed. It’s good that dogs are allowed, but the £20 fee seems steep compared with the room rate, especially as our dog wouldn’t need extra cleaning. A messy young child could need more tidying up. The receptionist was lovely and check-in was easy. The hotel is built above Springfields Outlet Centre. When we arrived, there was an awful fishy smell in the hallway that had spread into our room. We reported it, and reception suggested someone had brought back fish and chips, but the smell was much stronger and very unpleasant. It was still there when we came back after dinner. There’s no food at the hotel apart from a breakfast box. We’d recommend the nearby Petalo Lounge for food and drinks, just a couple of minutes’ walk away. They serve breakfast from 9, while Cafe Nero and Subway around the corner open at 8.
