Aubrey Park

Dinner was the highlight, tasty and well cooked. Breakfast was enjoyable too, just not as good. Reception staff were super helpful, and there’s plenty of free parking, so getting here was easy. The room was clean and comfortable, with plenty of hot water and good shower pressure. I liked the fluffy white towels and free Biscoff biscuits, though the pillows were very thin and the shower head needs replacing. The hotel could do with some paint. The lifts weren’t working, but it’s only two floors, so it wasn’t a big deal.

The catering was superb, and all the staff were very helpful. We had a great night, and the guests enjoyed themselves. We’d recommend the Aubrey Park Hotel for a function. We were booked to provide wedding entertainment for Carly and Rob. We arrived with plenty of time to set up, and the venue was ready, so we were well ahead of schedule. Access was easy, and there were plenty of plugs to keep things safe. You won’t be disappointed.

The car park has disabled spaces, but vans and other people who aren’t disabled use them. The road into the hotel is riddled with potholes, and the lighting between the main road and the hotel needs sorting out. I’ve stayed here before, but this time the whole place felt run down. The carpets need a proper clean or replacing, and the bar and restaurant furniture is still the same as before but now needs a good clean. It’s very dirty and unkempt. The restaurant floor is filthy and the room needs a revamp. The hotel needs a full clean, fresh paint, varnished woodwork and clean windows and frames. The rooms aren’t too bad: the beds are fairly comfortable, the sheets were clean and the towels were nice. But the rooms aren’t cleaned during your stay, which isn’t good enough for the prices. Breakfast was poor too, served cold, with some items overcooked and too many apples in the fruit salad. The hash browns should be edible. The bar and wine weren’t up to standard either. We know a good white Sauvignon Blanc comes from Malborough NZ, but they only had wines from other countries, and those weren’t good. The red wine was no better.

The receptionist was rude: surly and uninterested, and after I reached the desk he took a good 30 seconds to look up from his computer. The hotel feels like it’s declining. I’d only stay one night on the way somewhere else if I found a very cheap deal, and I wouldn’t expect anything special. The rooms are poky, generously “tiny, tired but adequate,” and hardly worthy of four stars. The hotel calls itself four star and claims to have a really great breakfast, but the breakfast was uninspired. I waited five minutes by the “please wait here to be seated” sign, then went to the buffet. The boiled eggs were grey around the yolks, the scrambled eggs were overcooked, and the sausages and bacon were okay. There was nothing green available. There were no teapots, so you have to make tea in a cup. That hardly feels four star worthy. I’d rate the hotel more like two or three stars.
