The Customs House

Filthy, overpriced and worn out. I rarely even consider posting a negative review, but this cottage was dirty enough that I had to change one of the beds on arrival. There was no welcome pack, not even a tea bag or basics like salt, pepper or washing-up liquid. No oven gloves either, which was annoying. After a few days, we had slugs in the downstairs shower room. None of the toilet doors shut properly, and one lock had been stuffed with toilet paper to block it up. Hardly luxury. There were mouldy biscuits and old bags of nuts under the sofa, used tissues under a bed, frying pans caked in old grease, and fluff and hair gathered in every corner, especially long black hair in the bathroom. There weren’t proper instructions for anything, and all the taps were a nightmare to turn on and off, especially bad if you have weak hands. The stairs are dangerous, and the children’s room opens straight onto a steep flight with no stair gate. We fell down the stairs several times. It felt like a money-making exercise with no thought for guests, which is a shame. Pentewan is beautiful and the people are friendly, so it’s worth visiting, but stay somewhere else.
